Florence Summer Highlights: The Concerts to Plan Your Season Around

Florence wears its Renaissance so well that people forget it is also a working music city — one with a big park stage on the Arno, a proper arena, and a busy circuit of theatres and clubs that keeps going long after the summer visitors have gone home. If you are planning your Florentine season, here is the calendar that matters, verified and up to date. The immediate headline is at the Anfiteatro delle Cascine Ernesto Pascale, the open-air amphitheatre in the city's great riverside park: on Saturday 25 July, RESONANCE presents Nico Moreno — one of the hardest-hitting names in industrial techno, headlining a night that confirms Florence's growing weight on the European electronic circuit. It is loud, it is late, and it is likely to be talked about for a while. September brings the park's biggest weekend: DECIBEL OPEN AIR returns to the Parco delle Cascine from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 September. Three days of world-class electronic music in Tuscany's largest urban park, with single-day tickets and a full weekend pass available — the festival has become one of Italy's essential dance-music dates, and locals plan holidays around it. When the weather turns, Florence's winter season opens up across two main stages. The Nelson Mandela Forum — the city's arena — hosts a remarkable run: Kid Yugi brings his "Anche gli Eroi Muoiono" palasport tour on Thursday 15 October; ANNA's "Million Dollar Babe" tour lands on Wednesday 2 December; and IRAMA closes the arena year with "A Chi Ci Sarà Sempre" on Tuesday 8 December.
